Artist Statement
Painting is the visual voice and unmitigated creative force of my heart’s imagination. My imagery is drawn from my soul’s memories— a rich compost filled with the beauty of the natural world. This inner world swirls like wind around structures of the galactic cosmos—from the tiniest of creatures resting on a dead leaf, to star clusters, to light itself.
Through a meandering process of building up and sanding back layers and layers of color and shapes and marks, each piece eventually settles into a paradox; nothing is concretely recognizable, yet somehow it feels “real.” These paintings are invitations. Come in, loosen your grip on what is “real,” replace knowing with curiosity, and reconnect with your capacity to experience wonder. Tap into a consciousness that urges us to look up into the universe, to realize we are an integral part of it. After all, our bodies are about 70% water and 99.9% empty space! We may know little about the physical universe, but are inherently drawn to the potency of connection and love. I hope that my paintings offer the opportunity to re-member ourselves as a singular family on this magnificent planet, moving beyond constraining realities.
